Q: I can't use your Winhelp files in VIsta, what to do?

Q: When I tried to download file using ChessOkDownloader I received the message “Unsufficient rights”. What should I do?
A: You didn’t provide your serial number or provided invalid serial number when started ChessOkDownloader.exe.

You need to click Yes to enter your serial number. If you clicked No you need to enter serial number later. Use Options button for this.

Q: How to add Rybka 3 UCI to shredder interface?
A: The Shredder interface requires file names without any blanks.
You should delete the blanks from the Rybka filename before installation.
For example, "Rybka 3 1-cpu 32-bit.exe" can be renamed to "Rybka31-cpu32-bit.exe".

Q: How can I make software works under Windows Vista OS?
A: We have three standart ways for any problem under Windows Vista
1) Right clicked on the icon and chose Properties. Then chose Compatibility tab. Chose the Windows 2000 emulation option
or
2)use bat file
or
3) If the bat-file can not be applied (Operation failed), then you can perform following actions manually to make programs work.
Go to: Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts
Find Turn User Account Control on or off
Turn off Use User
Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer
Press Ok
Reboot if required.
Note: You should disable User Account control before installing our programs.
If it doesn't help - use patch 920 to change the program protection, this patch (920) works for CA 9 only.
Q: I follow the instructions but I can't link Rybka*.exe to Fritz, what's the matter?
A: If you have connected Nalimov Tablebases to Fritz then try to do the following:
1. Put the exact tablebase path in "Extras/Options" of the Fritz GUI,
when Fritz is the active engine.
2. Quit the Fritz program totally.
3. Start Fritz again. It will now have Fritz 9 as active engine.
Tablebases are working. (Try!)
4. Deactivate the path to the tablebases, for instance by changing
"Nalimtbs" to "Nalimtbs0". (So you don't have to seek the path
afterwards again.)
5. Load the Rybka engine. The will be no error, and Rybka will use the
tablebases now.
6. Before quitting the program, change again to Fritz 9 and rename the
tablebase path again correctly.
7. Next time start with 3.
Q: I bought trainingx program CT-ART (for download), installed it, but when I try to run it, some error occurs.
A: Training program (download version) is necessary to install from CD with particular structure.
To install the program CT-ART 3.0 you should do the following operations:
1) Download the file
2) Unpack it. After unpacking the program the folder CT-ART 3.0 will be created.
3) Inside of the folder CT-ART 3.0 there are folders 'FONT' and "ENGLISH" which should be copied to a CD. CD catalogue looks like the following:
English
FONTS
4) Double click on the ct-art.exe file in the folder 'ENGLISH' on the CD to start the installation process.
Q: Why does Fritz (or another well-known strong program) calculate more variants in a second than Rybka (and sometimes much more than the latter)?
A: Rybka is a positional program. It calculates fewer variants, but does it more thoroughly. Moreover, the quantity of variants in a second is not the main index of program’s force.
Q: I installed Chess Assistant, but notation display incorrect symbols instead of chess fonts.
A: If some problems with chess notation occur, try to reinstall manually our CA Chess font from sub directory Fonts or reinstall the fonts from the following links: http://chessok.com/files/PRG55CHE.TTF
Q: How many processors does Rybka multi-processor version support?
A: Rybka multi-processor version supports all processors. However the 8 processors are used with the most effect.
Q: How to adjust the program Rybka to make it play in the strongest way?
A: For default all settings of Rybka are the best. You may increase its strength by adding more RAM for Hash tables, adding Nalimov Tablebases, using more strong Opening Book or using more powerful computer.
How to reactivate CA9 or Rybka
Q: I changed computer equipment and reinstalled Windows. Your programs won’t run.
A: If you bought version on CD/DVD, then you should reinstall it.
If you bought Rybka & Chess Openings (download version) or Chess Assistant (download version) and you have got the message: "This software does not accept more hardware changes. Please,contact support@yoursite.com" from win license protect, you need to delete ca9.dat (CCo.dat) and run program again. It will open the window for activation. Enter your serial number and select activation by Internet or by e-mail.
Q: while installation I have got the message that entered serial number is not correct.
A: There are two possible variants.
First, the serial number is entered incorrectly (for instance, the hyphens between figure’s groups are missed or the figures are replaced while entering). The second variant, that user try to use serial number of one program or version of Rybka & Chess Openings while installation of another version. You can specify, whether you serial number is correct by writing to info@chessok.com
Q: I’m a 1400 rated player. What software would you suggest I get to improve my
game?
A: We advise that you should start with the Chess Tactics for Beginners and Advanced
Chess School programs.
Chess Tactics for Beginners allows a student to cope with the elementary tactical
techniques, while Advanced Chess School contains extensive theoretical material on the
basic chess methods (Opening, Middlegame and Endgame): as many as 450 study examples in
total. There are also about 750 exercises intended for solving and playing.
After studying these two programs your rating is likely to go up to 1700 which means
you can proceed to CT-ART
3.0, Strategy
2.0 and Encyclopedia
of Opening Blunders.
Q: What is a chess engine?
A: A chess engine recommends moves and provides evaluation scores for chess positions. It should be used together with a chess graphical user interface (GUI), which will provide intuitive graphical interaction with the engine.
What graphical user interface should I use with Rybka?
The major chess graphical user interfaces (in no particular order) are:
· Arena
· Chessbase/Fritz
· Chess Assistant
· Shredder
· Chess Partner
From this list, Arena is free and is easily the best free chess graphical user interface available. It can be downloaded from here

Q: Does Rybka come with an opening book?
A: Yes. Rybka's commercial opening book is written by Jeroen Noomen, and is in .ctg format. Read more about the Rybka book.
Q: I bought Rybka UCI, but it won’t run.
A: Rybka UCI is not standalone program. You need to download it to the hard disk and add to any other chess program (which supports UCI protocol). Instructions here:

Q: Is Encyclopedia of Middlegame Vol. 1, 2 & 3 included in Total Chess Training or
just Volume 1?
A: Total Chess Training
includes just Encyclopedia of Middlegame, Volume I.
Both Volume II and Volume III are not included in Total Chess
Training.
Q: What are Chess Assistant Light limitations in
comparision with full version of Chess Assistant?

| Chess Assistant 7 Light is a
tool for managing chess games and databases, playing chess on the ICC, viewing electronic
texts in CA or PGN format, analyzing games, or playing chess against the computer. Database
and game management:
Facilitated with an easy-to-handle drag and drop interface plus a
navigation/database browser window, which really - should be - standard for programs of
this type.
Search tools:
And of course, all sorts of search tools at your disposal, like searches for
material, pawn structures, positions, players, sacrifices, piece movements, statistical
analysis, etc.
Internet Play:
For chess related Internet play, Chess Assistant 7 Light provides you with a
comfortable interface for playing on the ICC, which has the - by far - highest membership
capacity of all the chess clubs on the Internet. The interface allows you to play games
online, or to watch other games etc.
Playing and analysis:
You can use Chess Assistant 7 Light in combination with its built-in engines
Crafty and Dragon or with a wide, additional variety of Winboard engines. Infinite
Analysis and Blunder Search are available.
Export:
From the print mode one can export to RTF, HTML and Dynamic
HTML. |
Databases:
Databases are limited to 15,000 games.
Games are limited to 255 moves (including moves in variations).
When editing a game the library fields in the header are cleared.
No more than 5 databases can be opened simultaneously.
Tree and Classifiers:
Tree sizes are limited.
Classifiers are read-only.
Some modes that write data to classifiers are not available.
Analysis:
The Tiger engines are not included and they can't be linked. Automatic Engine
Analysis, Background Analysis, Interactive Analysis and Full analysis are not present.
Game Service:
Chess Assistant (full version) has an automatic update feature for new games (2500 new
games weekly). With Chess Assistant 7 Light this is not available.
Also Chess Assistant 7 Light does not have the following modes:
Opening Encyclopedia, Removing doubles, Packing and E-mailing a Base, Prepare for your
opponent and some other modes. |
Q: I have installed Windows XP and I have not been able to get some of my chess
programs to work. Is there a workaround for this?
A: Actually, all of our programs provide for operating under Windows
XP.
After installing Windows XP at your computer you are to re-install our
programs so that they could operate under a new operating system.
A problem may lie with a specific XP at an individual computer.
In particular Windows XP released before January, 1 has got an inappropriate driver
corrected in the later versions.

Q: I am having problems ordering at www.chessok.com. When I have made my
selections and it is time to hit order now button the personal cart reappears empty. How
come?
A: There have probably occurred some technical problems at the

Q: I ordered a book and a program at www.chessok.com. I received the software
almost immediately, but still no book. Can you please advise?
A: We have got several our chess stocks located all over the world
which is aimed at reducing delivery costs.
Thus components of an order can be shipped out separately from different places in
separate packages.
The program you ordered was sent from one of our stocks while the book was shipped out
from the other one two days later. That means there is no need to worry so far.
Q: Why has my order been approved but the payment hasn`t?
A: We hope everything is all right with your order. Just we haven't
received the bank's answer yet. The point is authorization at ours is not real time.
Please wait a day or two and the payment will be approved.
Q: How can I pay for the materials that I buy? What are the different options of
payment?
A: Several ways of payment for an order will be offered at our web

Q: My order has been placed, what method of shipping is used, what charges are
involved and when will my software be shipped?
A: Shipping to distant regions as Australia, South America,
Africa takes up to three weeks. Delivery is usually by air mail.
As for US states, we mostly ship out products from our stock in the United States. It
usually takes about 4-7 days for a shipment to reach a customer in this case.
Shipment to European countries takes as a rule up to 10 days.

Q: I have a Windows Millennium and it gave me the error 501(2). I try the patch and it
doesn`t work or maybe I didn`t do it the right way.
A: You can find the necessary patches for your program to
operate under Windows ME in our DOWNLOADS section. It
is specified which programs certain patches are intended for.
Some of our programs, however, have got several names for the main .exe file, so .bat
file may have a wrong name. In the latter case you should edit your .bat file or use
“drag and drop” technique that is drag the main .exe file into the patch.
